Meet with the wali present
After you both say yes, the brother contacts the wali. A meeting takes place with the wali or a mahram present, never alone. A public place or the family home both work well.
Looking at each other
Islam allows a man and woman who are seriously considering marriage to see each other. This is the moment for it, in the presence of family, with modesty.
Be yourself
A first meeting does not need to be perfect. Be honest about who you are, ask your questions and listen. If it does not feel right, say so kindly. Both of you are allowed to stop at any moment.
Check before you commit
Ask for references, check what you have been told and take your time. A good person will not mind.
