Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 November 2026
What you share here is entrusted to us. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it and what your rights are.
Who is responsible
Amaanah, KvK 99188953, VAT NL868853616B01 is the controller of your data under the GDPR. For anything about privacy, write to support@amaanah.app.
What we collect
- Account: name, email address, password (stored in protected form), brother or sister, phone number.
- Profile: date of birth, country, city, origin, height, languages, work, education, living situation, marital status, children, hobbies, character and your own texts.
- Faith: prayer, madhhab, Quran, knowledge, dress, whether you are a revert and your own description.
- Preferences: who you are looking for.
- Activity: requests, messages, decisions, favorites, blocks, reports, recommendations and notifications.
- Payments: packages, amounts, dates and status. Stripe handles your payment details. We do not receive your full card number.
- Wali: for sisters, the name, relation, phone number and email address of the wali.
- Change history: when you change your profile, preferences, phone number or wali, we keep the old and the new value, so we can check an application again and handle reports fairly.
- Technical: login attempts with IP address and browser, to protect accounts.
Special categories of data
Information about your faith is a special category of personal data, and information you give about origin or marriage can reveal more about you. We only process this with your explicit consent, which you give when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account. Withdrawing does not affect what we did before.
Why we use it, and on what basis
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Running your account, profile, search, requests and messages | Contract, and explicit consent for faith data |
| Calculating matches and daily recommendations | Contract, and explicit consent for faith data |
| Confirming phone numbers and the wali | Contract and legitimate interest in preventing fake accounts |
| Reviewing applications and handling reports | Legitimate interest in a safe platform |
| Payments, receipts and bookkeeping | Contract and legal obligation |
| Service emails, such as a new request or a match | Contract |
| Protecting logins against abuse | Legitimate interest |
Matching
A match percentage and daily recommendation are calculated automatically from what you and the other person filled in. You can see how a percentage is built up by clicking it. This only suggests people to you. It does not decide anything with legal or similar effect, and whether your account is approved is decided by a person.
Who can see what
- Other members see that you are a brother or sister, your age, city and country, and your profile. They never see your name, email address, phone number or a photo.
- The other person in a conversation sees your messages.
- A wali hears from us when the sister starts a conversation. With his code and her date of birth he can follow that conversation and see the brother's profile. Only if they both say yes does he also see the brother's number.
- A brother receives the wali's name, relation and number if both said yes. The sister's number is never shared.
- Our administrators can see all data, including messages, to review applications, handle reports and keep the platform safe.
If you are named as a wali
A sister gives us your name, relation, phone number and email address, so that you can confirm your role. If you do not confirm, you can ask us to delete your details. If you do confirm, we keep them for as long as her account exists, and we share them with a brother when both said yes. Your rights below apply to you too.
Service providers
We share data with companies that work for us, only as far as needed, and under a data processing agreement:
- Stripe for payments;
- WhatsApp (Meta), because you send your confirmation code to us on WhatsApp. This goes through your own WhatsApp account;
- our hosting provider and email provider.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. We share data with authorities only when the law requires it.
Transfers outside the EU
Some providers process data outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States. In that case we use an adequacy decision or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for a copy.
How long we keep data
- Account, profile and messages: until you delete your account. They are then erased.
- Closed as married: your account stays closed and hidden until you ask us to delete it.
- Payment records: kept for the period that tax law requires, which is 7 years in the Netherlands, without your name linked to them after deletion.
- Reports about a member: as long as that member's account exists.
- Backups: erased in the normal backup cycle.
Security
We use encrypted connections, protected passwords, limits on login attempts and limited access for administrators. No system is perfectly safe. If a breach is likely to put you at risk, we tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to give access to your data, correct it, erase it, limit its use or transfer it, and you can object to its use. You can correct most things yourself on your profile, download your data and delete your account in your settings. For anything else, write to us and we answer within a month.
You can also complain to your supervisory authority. In the Netherlands this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Cookies
We only use cookies that the site needs to work: one to keep you logged in and one for security. We use no advertising or tracking cookies, so we do not ask for permission. We host our own fonts, so these do not contact other companies.
Age
Amaanah is only for people aged 18 and over. If we learn that someone younger has an account, we delete it.
Changes
We update this policy when our service changes. If a change matters to you, we tell you in good time.
